I can always make you smile

I once heard someone say that smiles are contagious, I didn’t understand it until a few days later, I was angry and accidentally saw someone I care about smile. I found myself smiling for no reason, and I even forgot why I was angry, all I thought about was that I was actually smiling.

It was a happy feeling, the feeling to smile after hours of a bad mood, or maybe days. Let’s face it, we all have bad days. It doesn’t matter if you have everything or have nothing, you will pass in those dark days where you feel that all doors are closed. Without the dark days, you would never know the meaning of happy days. However, even though dark days are important to make you value the essentials in life, no one would love to stay and no one would prefer them over the happy bright days.

Long story short, why don’t you become someone who pulls their loved ones out of the dark days? Some people say that you should let people grieve until the reason for sadness is over, and tell you to leave people alone because it is okay not to be positive all the time. But then, why do we water our garden and assist it to grow? We could wait for winter, it will rain on its own. The same implies to our relationships with people we care about. It’s true, it is unhealthy to intervene in someone’s life and interrupt their healing process, but this surely doesn’t mean not being there for them. Everyone could use a helping hand, and no one will be shy to ask for help when things get to their darkest.

I assume that now while reading, you might have thought of someone who gave you a helping hand, or someone you care about who is going through hard times. And if you haven’t realized yet, one day you will realize the importance of the ones who care to help someone in hard times. They will decide to make a commitment to help someone who might not reply or maybe have an offensive response. People who are experiencing tough situations don’t always act nice, and they can never be blamed. Imagine losing what you love, or having your entire universe fall to dust.

Those people will think of a very special sentence that you surely thought of one day: I can always make you smile. This sentence even though not very complicated, is a reflection of a very complicated commitment. It never comes without love, caring, will, persistence, and sacrifice. I can always make you smile, it means I’ll do whatever it takes, to make you smile again after every problem. I will make you smile again not when the problem is solved, but through the solution and before you even figure it out. I can make you smile again means I will let you find the solution while smiling. It never means promising others there will never be another bad day, but instead, it means promising others that they won’t have to endure all this alone.

Sometimes, all you need is something to lean on, a shoulder, a heart, a listening friend. People never need an ear that listens to their problems, but a heart that understands.

Now I have a small challenge for you. You most probably thought of a person when reading the sentence I can always make you smile. If not, you have thought of someone now. Talk to this person, and just make a small step, and make them feel special, remember, it is never about the big things, but the million little things, that launch a butterfly effect, where a small, tiny, unseen change, can make a huge impact and difference.

And one day you will sit on your couch with a drink in your hand and realize the beauty of feeling that the joy you placed in someone’s heart, was the same as the one you felt when someone pulled you out of trouble, and this joy is immense.
